So Fractal when either the next WIP of the Imperator’s redux or next 4K model update or are you still busy with something at the moment? Because you haven’t upload anything on December 2017 and I was patient and concerned about it.
Also Happy New Year!

Sweet can’t wait for that also Fractal would it be possible for the Imperator to have some heavy turbolasers on it’s axial? Like either 3 quad 70 teraton caliber or oct 40 teraton caliber?

So Fractal do you think the Resurgent class’s bow, flight deck, side hangers and prominent keel that was inspired by the Venator class for it secondary role as carriers is a good idea?

Fractal (and anyone else) I got a question that I need a confirmation on the answer: hyperdrives can go slower than their class designation, right? It would explain how fleets can come out of hyperspace in sync while having drastically different hyperdive classes.

wingYou know what ? I’m kinda glad Lucasfilm didn’t put the assertor in the new trilogy, after all. It would probably be obliterated within five minutes of screentime by a single squadron of x-wing or a ramming attack…

My preferences run closer to “Assertor’s tonnage/budget in Bellators” (hell, based on the Supremacy+Resurgent screen’s inability to cripple one Mon Cal, *a* well-crewed Bellator might prove more efficient), but thirded. Plus, what is up with these films’ design committees finding THREE ways to squeeze sheer failsauce from the B-wing template (flying-brick transports, floating-magazine bombers, scrapheap-ski-speeders)?

I actually like the designs in TLJ better than TFA, (unfortunately the same cannot be said about the general plot in my opinion) with the floating magazine actually having semi-effective defensive turret for once. But as for the Supremacy+Resurgence failure to destroy the Mon Cal, I believe it all comes down to the thing firing one shot at a time instead of – you know – a saturated attack. Surely the Supremacy is wide enough to grant a firing arc that can bypass the Raddus’s aft shield bubble. This is ignoring the fact that tubolasers apparently can have curved trajectory now…?

Sad thing is, I’m pretty sure the arcing TLs & spaceborne magazines are another example of WWII-flick aesthetics over stuff that kinda-sorta made sense (like, oh, attack birds with some fire-and-dodge capability). But yeah, you’d think a ship with enough tonnage for 4+Executors (and no particular ‘hold fire so the superweapon can play’ orders) would have enough guns to friggin’ deluge (as in audience-seizure TL flashes) one barely-maneuvering target at that distance. Although cue “well, CLEARLY the Resistance had babbletonium shield-boosting ore!” any minute now.

Just throwing in my two cents. I assume I wasn’t the only one who, upon seeing the ‘Dreadnought’ for the first time in pre-release articles, saw that weird ‘indent’ in the middle and went ‘Oh, there’s it’s weak point. That’s gonna get shot up.’? The way they handled the space combat in this was…disappointing.

Good observation-I was hung up on the siege pizza’s funky oversized command tower & much-noted lack of scale-indicating features (srsly, that render could just as easily be an Immobilizer-scale frigate). I suppose TLJ’s bombers could be handwaved as hastily-repurposed minelayers, but there’s still the teeny-tiny issue of how those lumps would’ve caught anything that wasn’t closing to point-blank. Plus, about all we can infer the Resurgent squadron doing (well, besides getting caught in Supremacy’s frag pattern) is embarking ground assets for the salt-mine Hoth rehash (assuming *those* weren’t launched from one of the megawing’s intact bays).

Disrupting the flow of topics for a moment here, but in regards to shields augmentation gimmik, it wouldn’t surprise me, since some book already slapped the Rebels with some fancy tractor beam that can haul more mass than the host vessel’s own mass.

Right, though at least since nobody’s dropped any official stats (that I know of) we could visualize a Starhawk as some fair fraction of an Executor’s tonnage (Legator scale? Mandator II?). The sheer Magick Anti-Tradeoff Minerals(R) factor WRT a roughly Resurgent-sized ship indefinitely tanking shots from something like the Snokemobile(R) seems to have that beat by ludicrous orders of magnitude.

PhantomFury

Hah! Concerning more stats, I think the visual dictionary said a thing or two about Raddus’ grand shielding, and more is sure to come out of the TLJ cross-section book.

And by space combat you mean both the so called Mandator 4 class siege dreadnought ( Which isknown as the Fulminatrix) going down too easily like take out by one bomber and all of it’s anti air cannons destroyed by one X-wing fighter which was supposed to be weak against and most noticeably the Raddus (the MC 85) hyperspace jump to cut the Superamacy and the battlecruisers escorting in pieces right?

Suppose there’s a sliver of silver lining re: general TIE competence whenever they aren’t directly engaged with main characters (murdering the bomber squad, component-striking the Raddus’ bridge), but sweet Sithspit do I have to agree re: things like (a) single-ship Wild Weasel antics on dreadpizzas, (b) FO flagdoomwings with a lower fire rate than your average age-of-sail merchant, and (c) fighters out of ‘fleet support range’ (whatever that means)…with every ship in handy Mk 1 eyeball distance. But hey, at least we know those fearsome kyber-TLs can whack unshielded, non-maneuvering space buses at a plot-convenient rate!

PhantomFury

I agree that the TIE’s competence when the plot demands it produced quite a smile on my face. Well, until plot demands a dreadnought sacrifice to be in order, that is.
As for the controversial lightspeed jump, I presume it’s just that they made pseudomotion an actual movement now instead of percieved motion and it was during this time that the Raddus became a relativistic projectile. After that would be in hyperspace dimention making collision with anything smaller than an astronomical body impossible. However…this makes Han’s magical drop out of hyperspace between shields and ground even more miraculous.

It’s funny. To this day, every Star Wars movie since Disney’s takeover made something absurd or ridiculous to the concept of hyperspace : in TFA, it was Han’s trick to pass through the shield of starkiller base, in RO it was the U-wing hyperjump inside of Jehda’s atmosphere and now that…
This movie made exactly what I feared it would. Create a comically large ship (because that’s the only thing the director could remember about the OT) which it would have to get rid of in the last act, one way or another. As for the dreadnought, its performance was so pathetic it doesn’t even deserve mention. I’m just glad it disappeared from history, may they never reference it ever again.

I just hope that Supremacy isn’t gone for good in this movie as comically large as it is. I mean….a ship that large can’t be killed off just like that….right?

@Phantom
It probably ain’t happening, but I’d be tickled pink by a cold open to Ep 9 where FO heavy (like, oh, 2 km) transports with a Resurgent screen are transferring salvageable materiel from the Doomwing’s hulk…and then a mixed fleet of pissed-off Mon Cal home-defense cruisers + ex-Imp battlewagons/destroyers pop in, tipped off by the Resistance’s remains. Guess who’s capital-D done with your shit, Space Daesh?

Ive been watching your creations and they are absolutely awesome. so much detail, creativity and effort put into them. They are the best. 10/10. I want to give you a challenge if you see this. If you maybe could make the Mega-class Star Destroyer from The Last Jedi. That would be so awesome. Maybe you will or maybe not, up to you. But with your talent, i know it would be a great highlight in your collection.

Hi Fractalsponge

A new and updated Star Destroyer, happy very i am.

I am currently start taking over the Stellaris Starwar mod on the Imperial side of thing. I was wondering if you could do a commission for me on a imperial Star Destroyer MK III of your design and choice. So i could turn it in to a low polygons Model. i just have two limits, it have to be around 1800 m.

What do you think Fractalsoponge?

So Fractal when you done this redux would you possibly make a comparison of two Imperator Star Destroyers one old and one new side by side just to show how far your work have become?

Anonymous

problem is, the windows go right up to the very edge of the module.

This was the thread where it was argued that a 12.8m bridge module, mandates a 203m wide bridge:

http://boards.theforce.net/threads/the-star-destroyer-bridges-of-the-original-trilogy.50044307/page-4#post-54221466

Which would suggest that, relative to the width of the bridge tower, the bridge module itself needs to be proportionally much smaller, to produce a 270m (minimum) or 285m (Complete Locations) bridge tower.

Saxton’s Bridge Towers page:

http://www.theforce.net/swtc/towers.html

shows the same sort of imagery. He estimated around 10-11m for the exterior module on the Executor, not 16m.

Saxton’s theory appeared to be that the alcoves did not in fact protrude – being vidscreens rather than windows.

Fun fact in legends one of the Imperator star destroyer use by Grand Admiral Miltin Takel was named the Magic Dragon.

Regarding the “oversized bridge” issue- I assume this Imperator is going to be 1600m long, and not resized downward in size?

If so (given that apparently the Bridge Set from the TESB movie was 12.5 m across – which is consistent with the way it appears from the inside, in the Avenger scenes) then it would appear that, regardless of the way Rogue One star destroyers are modelled- this one will need a smaller bridge module.
