Well, the similar Coruscant-class Heavy Courier was a courier (duh), meaning it was intended for “delivery of urgent cargo and passengers and was thus built for speed rather than combat”, quoting Wookiepedia. So I would assume that the Lightskimmer-class Scout would function as a scout (duh), but also as a courier in a secondary role, zooming through the atmospheres of planets.

This is a cool animation. If you do more with this, could you make it land like the original Nebulon Ranger? It appears that the extended wings just ‘retract’ inside the wings for landing instead of flopping down. Or else they fold inward so that the single large wing doesn’t have to ‘shift’ to land. Here is the schematic I was looking at:
I’m guessing maybe just a little larger than a Lambda shuttle. More around Slave I’ size.

Finished up Fallen Order and couldn’t help but appreciate the amount of effort they put into the Mantis. There were a couple interior layout/space programming elements I could quibble with, but overall it was great to not see another re-skin of a Corellian freighter.
And, I couldn’t help but keep coming back to this ship, Legends background aside, and how much the Mantis could have been a distant precursor, perhaps even from the same shipyard/design lineage.

An absolutely ridiculous design. There’s no valid reason to position a massive wing in a 45° angle like that. The way it is configured while landing should be the way it is all the time.
In other words, it’s a perfect fit for the Star Wars universe. I call these “weirdo”-ships. Ships with an asymmetrical or otherwise weird or totally impractical configuration, and they’re some of my favorite designs. This ship is a wonderful and unique looking weirdo, I could totally imagine it as a hero’s ship in a movie or game.

This looks a lot like the Nebulon Ranger from Legends.

Huh, having seen it animated doesn’t make it look nearly as complicated as I initially thought!

Fractal, apart from the Rule of Cool, what practical application do you see wings having in SW spacecraft? I presume they’re necessary for some sort of essential ship function, whether it’s the hyperdrive field, sensors, maneuvering, or some/all of the above, but I’d like to hear your thoughts on it.
My take is that they are (or tend to be) radiator surfaces first, shield projectors second, potentially repulsorlift surfaces third, and then anything else after those. Radiator is pretty obvious – after all all TIE wings are radiators, and wings are a convenient arrangement for these devices. Whether the radiators themselves are covered with a thin skin or not seems to be largely immaterial, given how neutrino radiators are supposed to work (I can also see them stacking as well, but wings on small craft give you some equipment layout options for those things that need to be spread out as well). Possibly you would not be able to lay out heavy (neutronium) armor over radiators, but skinning with structural steel/metal seems to be no problem.
I love this, so different to your usual work. I’ve got an idea for your next project, how about the DP20 frigate? And if you do can you do the less blocky one and the one with more exposed engine units?

Can I pick one up at Truthful Toryl’s Used Spaceship Lot??
Nah, their inventory is usually just some patchjob made to look pretty anyway. I’d suggest Duunmasa Emporium. Take the 306 airbus and get off at Kenjiiv station, it should be on your right.
It is highly inspired, I think fractal said that in one of his first WIP of this ship, or at least I think he did.

Love your work! Wanted to know if you wouldn’t mind making an original rebel/new republic ship, not just imperial designs)))

Awesome ship! I love the takeoff sequence too, it’s absolutely epic! Are you going to upload the takeoff on your YouTube like you did the turn tables on some ships btw?
Although perhaps the only problem with this bird might be crash landing it would be… Challenging…
What would this thing be used for and is it practical?

Also a landed picture from a recent book shows this, but it looks like half the wing just disappears
If you look at the upper section it appears it’s folded up on top of the wing rather than just tucking inside the rest of the wing.
Any idea on what the size of this thing would be?

Appreciate the heads up.
This is an epic design. Ive never seen it though, is it a completely custom build, or does it have some source material?
No, it’s Ulic Qel-Droma’s Nebulon Ranger. Or at least highly inspired by that Shop.

The way it flies off is like it’s putting on a hat as it leaves the house…
Love it! And that animation is superb!
Ansel sold out. Should have kept the official name as the WTF-Wing./s
