this thing is such an insane unflyable wunderwaffen. its like somebody took the concept of a flak truck from ww2 with the folding down sides and decided this could work as a SPACE FIGHTER. Strangely enough, the RAF actually had something like this exact concept, a literally flying flak turret, the Bolton Defiance/ it was actually really good at shooting down unescorted bombers early blitz. the part where this becomes ludicrous is that the wings have to fold down for the turrets to be actual turrets and all the rotating joints which make this thing a mechanical nightmare that would constantly break and jam in awkward positons lol. very much a Tie Experimental that never made it off the drawing board.
Unflyable? You’ve clearly never met the other TIE Experimentals… The TIE Bizarro still gives me nightmares to this very day…
The Whirlwind looks effective at doing its job though its cost (and undoubtedly high maintenance) would relegate it to escorting only high-ranking Imperials or guarding Core Worlds from Alliance bombers….
One can only bet that it is more effective then the TIE/rb (Brute).

Oh this is sick, I always did like turret fighters. Even the old ones from the earlier half of the 20th century.

that’s really awesome I wonder if it would land like a vulture droid and requires a ladder to get in and out of the cockpit?

I’m getting Legend of the Galactic Heroes Valkyrie vibes and it is making my nerd heart sing better than and Epstein drive sipping refined Tylium.

So with the turrets does it have 2 crewmen? A pilot and a gunner?

Dang! Up until now the Mangler was my favorite TIE, with its turbolasers to fight big ships. But this one… I can see this literally dancing around enemy fighters while picking them off one by one with its turrets.

I can’t decide whether I like it or not. It is certainly unique and would look gorgeous in flight but the gimmick is, well gimmicky. I applaud your boldness and creativity, but all I’m saying is…Hasbro would love it if this made its way into canon. 😛 Good work as always though!
I meant completely fold down. The panels are just in the way on this design and should be redesigned. in any case it a ludicrously complicated design that would never see more then a few prototypes.

Wow, this thing would wreck Alliance starfighters with a good pilot. Great Job Fractal!
It absolutely looks like a Mandalorian-inspired TIE.

Really wish you’d been the one designing stuff for the sequel trilogy. Then again, perhaps it’s better not to have your name attached to such a mess? LOL. Point is, your designs are fantastic.
Does it still have the ability to fold its wings, or did you decide to scrap that? I hope that a droid brain is the co-pilot here as historically human aimed turrerts were rather bad accuracy wise.
Great design!!

Ooh, love the name! Props to the gunner (I’m assuming there’s one) for moving the wings in sync with the turrets. How they manage to do that, I can’t imagine.
I imagine it being a maintenance hog. Probably more expensive to run then a TIE Defender. The TIE Defender might be more expensive to produce but the complexity of this design is probably a credit sink

Why fold the wings? Just have the pilot roll so that the primary threat axis is now “up” or “down” (based on personal preference).
It pains me that these aren’t flyable in a game
how the hell would you fly this exactly?
Instantly my favorite tie fighter variant

IF the solar panels could fold down the turrets could fire 360 without reorienting the ship.
Check out WIP #2, they can.

In fortunately its a very complicated design that’s would be extremely difficult to pilot. The B-wing of the Tie Series.
Whirlwind… aye, I see what you did there.
Would this be a patrol fighter or some sort of heavy fighter destroyer?
More like an escort fighter/defensive dogfighter. It could hunt bombers too but the maneuverability and turrets aren’t *required* for that.
this is so over the top it scream WUNDERWAFFEN.
BOI this design is gorgeous
This is a really great TIE design. It’d be cool to see this in Mandalorian season 2 and its Moff Gideon’s new experimental TIE!
It absolutely looks like a Mandalorian-inspired TIE.

Droid brain, perhaps. Probably the best way to keep the guns on one target or even targetting multiple targets at once
Easily the most beautiful TIE fighter I have ever seen!
This design is insane! I imagine it being the pinnacle of intercepter technology.
