I love these infrastructural projects. And I like the additional massing/prow to the upper surface of the Is the gantry system going to be double-sided? Or remain as shown on a single side to accommodate larger ships?
And those ‘ports’ on the sides of the dock–are those thrusters/engines for positional maneuvering or are they something intended to allow multiple docks to interconnect? Resource intakes or something for onboard fabrication plants perhaps–always enjoyed the idea behind the World Devastators in Dark Empire, if not necessarily the implementation.
The sliding platform will be modular, so you can have one top “plate” unit and several of those platform units able to be configured to handle stuff up to…say star cruiser/battlecruiser. Larger ships would involve multiple plate units and multiple sliding platforms to arrange the gantry scaffold. The ports on the side exist so that multiple docks can…dock. In theory, slap 16 of these together the right way and you can dock an Assertor.
The gantry scaffold is basically a secure anchoring framework (active field based) for manipulator arms on sliding bases and other machinery and docking structures. They gantries are double sided in that sense but given the nature of the platform above it, the attached gear would mostly be used on one side at a time. Next update should make the mechanism clearer.

I’ve been meaning to ask, what’s the Red bit for? I assume it’s meant to be used for docking with some kind of larger vessel, but I honestly have no idea… it’s probably obvious and I just can’t see it

It’s a giant gantry framework–you can see an ISD in a couple shots that the whole thing is wrapping around.
Thanks!
Looks good. Been meaning to ask… How often do you update your greeble library?
