What do you see insofar as the capabilities of the dock section? There was brief mention in one of the novels (Truce at Bakura, IIRC) of “airdock”, which presumably means a ship the size of an ISD contained in a breathable atmosphere. I just can’t help but think that’s a little too far-fetched / unnecessary. But if so, what function does the dock provide apart from being a mounting point for the grappling arms?
Definitely not an atmo curtain. Maintaining cubic kilometers of air is a bit outlandish and unnecessary imo. We don’t know how welding/fabrication really works in SW, but my guess is that it’s not particularly improved by having reactive atmosphere anyway.
The frame is really acting just as a modular and extensible mounting system. Doesn’t have to be restricted to booms, but other platforms and such etc. Guarantees easy position calibration and a stable frame of reference relative to the rest of the platform and the docked ship (which can braced by the tractor arrays).
I *can* see large volumes being pressurized, but probably in something like the Kuat ring where the surrounding structure doesn’t need to be powered to maintained atmosphere like this open grid.

What’s the operational scale of one of these bad jaspers?
I’m assuming that it effectively accommodates [assuming it’s parked and serviced with a dedicated supply line] about an average planetary battle group’s worth of materiel: continuous repair/refit operations from starfighter up to to…heavy cruiser(?) and refits on star destroy and battle cruisers. This would include capacity to fabricate general refits/replacements and maybe even include full manufacturing lines for said systems and fighter scale craft–definitely your basic TIE- range. Maybe you could squeeze in a limited line or two for corvette-scale ships–like your average patrol boat or in-system type craft. Non-combat/extended service ranges would emphasize repair/replacement over refit, as-needed?
Beyond that, you’d have to start stacking them to provide capacity for dedicated repair/replacement work on anything larger than a star destroyer (or at least more than a couple at a time) and refits on ≥dreadnaught class ships, produce a full manufacturing line of corvette- or frigate-scale ships, and a combat heavy force…
I can see one of these things being trailed by an Arc Hammer type manufacturing vessel and a field secured container transport which would carry half manufacturing material and some Golan type platforms for perimeter defences.
I’d argue the Arc Hammer and it’s brethren were far too specialized and limited in scope to relegate to general use. Much more of a one-off whose main purpose was to accommodate the insanely obsessive and security conscious R&D for some Grand Moff’s or Emperor’s crazy scheme that, for whatever reason, couldn’t just be located out of the way in the Deep Core.
But I would definitely see this having its own contingent of support craft.
It can be that, or a landing area for smaller ships, or the base for more manipulator arms or scaffolding to access the bottom of a larger ship above the main unit.

Eh, half asleep, so dont mind me. Lol!

You are probably right about that.
What is the large flat part at the “stern”?
The grid is a landing stretch for smaller ships/marshaling area for containers, material, equipment.
cool, I figured you had a purpose for it.
Great. I take it the dorsal area between the hangars is a large pad for dropping off cargo pods.
