I want to think its engines are largely for orientation and preservation of orbit. Like, interplanetary transit would take weeks.
That’s got me thinking– these would likely be fabricated in sophisticated orbital fab yards, so you’d need a way to transport them from the planet of origin. Maybe a hyperspace ring?
I’m sure there are a few different shipping options for a complete station, including the FCSV, but I would think it’d be cheaper to just throw in a weak hyperdrive and associated systems than to pay for such a major shipping operation every time one of these needs to be deployed or go to a major dockyard for periodic refit over their (likely centuries-long) service lives.
Not to mention the tactical/strategic value of being able to self-deploy/re-deploy, even if very slowly.
Though I could see the manufacturer keeping some giant specialized hyperspace tugs on hand, and make a killing renting them out to buyers.
I think those specialized hyperspace tugs are basically FSCVs. Integration of a major system like a hyperdrive into something like a Golan seems highly inefficient. It’s huge, so the system needs to be robust and well integrated, but will be used very sparingly (ideally, once for delivery). If you want it to be able to do things that are militarily useful like microjump or self-deploy then that drives up the cost until you’re wondering what the difference is between a Golan and a slow battlecruiser. And that does matter, because it changes the perception of the station completely. “Defensive static platform” is not as concerning for other planets or central authority as “mobile hyperlane blockader” or “mobile siege weapon” – a fully hyper capable Golan is pretty much a battlecruiser, after all.
I didn’t even think of the threat factor of FTL mobility, but it’s a very good point. It completely changes the perception of a large battle station if it can be used offensively instead of strictly to protect a world.

Can you do next Pellaeon Star Destroyer ?

Could you do the Valor Class Cruiser one day? Feel’s like old republic ships aren’t that much attention.

Looks Beautiful!!!
You should make a shot with a couple of these and a bunch of novators put together with ships being worked on. I think that would really bring it all together great.

Is this to be a specific model or a Golan in general?
The ones from the Death Star (but also common on Imp warships generally)? Those are designated XX-9 Heavy Turbolaser Batteries in Canon, XX-9 Heavy Turbolasers in Legends.
By Fractal’s standards, they’d probably be light turbolasers.

The glowing and rotating turrets here are huge tractor beams, right?
I guess it’s the 2600m long mk III version ?
Is this station mobile? Planet to planet?

Only ~100g will get you from sun to earth orbit in 5hrs.
Do you see these having hyperdrives for self-deployment or are these assembled in place?
A sufficiently large transport like an FCSV could deliver a Golan in one piece.

Based on the size comparison with the ISD from the earlier WIP post, it’s most likely a Golan III.
Muchas gracias mi amigo.
love it Ansel. Im digging the pd towers! You should make a new model of the standard double barrel turbo laser turret. Forgot its model number.
Would love to see some of these dotting surfaces in the future.

Those are positioning thrusters for orientation.
Good point, that was my second guess.
