How powerful are these new turbolasers? How much energy per shot at maximum reactor power per 1 gun?
Each barrel is 2.88 petatons (2880 teratons)
So, per turret, that’s about 8.64PT going down range, theoretically per second, in contrast to the Star Monitor, only being able to fire the three barrels once every ~25-30 seconds.
That would be about 242 petatons going down range per second, from the Superheavies alone.
It’s still the same reactor and capacitor array; only the turret arrangement change. Total fire downrange is ~359PT/s for both variants of the M3. What matters is that this variant’s fire is more concentrated, which means less variance in damage for a shield cell/point target, which is more useful against singular larger targets (say a planet, or another Mandator)
It’s the difference between a blowtorch and a flamethrower, if you put the same amount of fuel in them, the blowtorch will burn a hole through a single point in the hull, while the flamethrower spreads its energy equally throughout the hull.
What’s the source for the 2.88 PT figure, or the max speed of 1 per second for the triple-barrelled turret on large ships?
Since each triple-turret replaces the central double-turret in a battery of 3 double-turrets, then in order for the two ships to be throwing the exact same amount of fire downrange, then either the triple turrets must throw exactly the amount that the double turrets do (0.72 PT per barrel, 1.44 PT per second) or the double turrets must suffer reduced firing rates when the triple turrets are firing.
1.5 PT per barrel on the triple turrets and 1 shot every 3 seconds, however, would allow for the triple turrets to be only slightly higher in throw weight per second than the double-turrets – which would make sense if the two Mandator variants throw close to the same amount of firepower.
The source is Shiki, who commissioned the turret itself, and I believe the Mandator III refit.
Standard (not maximum) shots per second for a main ship cannon is 1, making for 60 RPM. It’s a nice round number that everyone generally based their stats on. I don’t have an exact source for it, because it’s like looking for a needle in a haystack, but I’m fairly certain Fractal has his main batteries as 1 shot per second per barrel.
I assume the rate of fire of a standard heavy turbolaser is 1 shot per second. For mediums, might well be higher, depending on role and design. Light turbolasers or cut down area defense guns could potentially be extremely rapid firing by power generation, but at least the rate of the Slave I’s laser cannons is probably safe to say.
But the one on Inexpugnables, Golans, and the Star Monitor isn’t exactly standard.
He also suggested that the standard heavy turbolaser on the Vindicator has a lower rate of fire than on bigger ships:
Per shot, 150-200x MTL to single HTL. I think the firing rate for the quads is reasonably high, and the HTL on this sized ship relatively slow to fire compared to a big ship, so the balance between turrets is more like 5:1 on a sustained basis.
Such destructive batteries could essentially fully replace the Death Star, imagine if all these towers start shooting at the planet for at least 10 minutes. It may not explode into pieces, but nothing alive will remain. It seems to me that the numbers you name are too high, although of course the power of heavy turbolasers directly depends on the energy release of the reactor. Therefore, if its power is capable of providing this energy, then this is harsh
No. This variant only outputs the same energy as the original, it just does it in a different way. It’s not performing something like a Base Delta Zero any faster and it’s not taking down a planetary shield any faster. It’s also just as vulnerable to any planet-based defenses as the original. A Death Star is far more powerful, able to destroy a planet with shields with one hit, and is far more defended.
In order for it to output exactly the same energy as the original, the 2.88 petaton triple turrets need to fire 1 shot per barrel every 6 seconds – this would result in an output of 1.44 petatons per second – exactly what the double-barrelled .72 petaton turrets that they replace, fire if each barrel fires 1 shot per second.

Siege focused Mandator III… maybe this lends to it’s evolution into the hyperspecialised Mandator IV.
Based on how much Fractal hates the Mandator IV, I can’t see him including it in the lineup – maybe, to him, this variant is the Mandator IV, and the “Siege Dreadnought” doesn’t exist in his ‘verse.
Based on Stardestroyer.net’s description of Fractalsponge’s version of the Old Republic Inexpugnable class battleship (which uses the same type of large guns) it’s probably somewhere between 1 and 2 petatons per shot (as compared to 720 teratons per shot for the big double-barrelled turrets). Might be slightly more if technology has improved sufficiently since that era.
They might have a lower rate of fire than the standard 1 shot per second though. Might depend on what the mechanical considerations are for turrets this size.
