the torpedo sphere would be a major pain in the ass in large fleet battles with all those torpedo launchers. i would load it with a mix of Ion Torps to cripple enemy ships and protons to finish them off. Absolute nightmare it could disable entire squadrons and force the enemy to mount rescue operations with an ion torpedo volley or turn enemy ships into obstacles for their own fleet. i can potentially also see this carrying a ton of Droid star-fighters in those racks if it was a CIS ship. a super cheap platform that can jump into a system disgorge a shit ton of vultures and just bug out. while the rest of the fleet takes care of business.

An interesting take on the T-Sphere. Certainly better looking than the original one.

What’s the yield of those six massive turrets at the front? It’s hard to tell but each of them looks about as long as that ISD’s entire battery.
They’re the same art asset as on the Inexpugnable (10 turrets, 20 barrels, over 1 petaton per shot, maybe up to 1.5 petatons per shot). The Golan also has the same turrets.
“if it were an OT ship we’d be looking at a 20-30 petaton broadside (1+ petaton per shot for the heavy turbolasers)”
so, assuming the actual power levels are the same, with hypermatter reactors and turbolaser energies not rising significantly since that era – then each shot should be around 1 or 1.5 petatons, depending on what fractalsponge is going with.
For comparison an ISD I’s gun barrels fire 0.175 petatons per shot at most, and a Star Dreadnought’s biggest conventional guns fire 0.72 petaton shots.
It’s possible that the big space station-type guns have a slower rate of fire than the standard 1 shot per second that’s expected for a big turbolaser at full speed though.

i would imagine as this is an artillery/siege platform if it had any guns it would for big long range and slow firing.

This is just awesome. I can see this thing being more useful than just as a planetary shield buster. I think I said this before, but if a small ship like a Carrack jumped in, passively gained targeting solutions on a defending fleet, then transmitted that to the sphere, it could jump in, launch a barrage, and sianara defence forces.

The torpedo sphere itself looks only about ISD-length, whereas a Lucrehulk is around twice the length of an ISD. Since the core looks around the same size relative to the rings as the Lucrehulk’s, it follows that the central core must be smaller than the centre core of a Lucrehulk.

Are the tubes filled with concussion missiles or proton torpedoes? Or could they be swapped out?

I always wondered why torpedo spheres were considered such devastating weapons. Now I understand. The amount of ordnance carried on this thing is mind-boggling.

This is just me, but I feel it strays a little too far from the source materials… BUT I do appreciate how the design language ties back into other elements—specifically the Lucrehulks—and slots well into a corner (a slightly weirder corner) of the Ansel-verse.

Utterly magnificent. A far better design than the official one. Coruscant stands no chance!

This is awesome to see a model of. I imagine if properly supported, this thing wouldn’t have too much trouble busting through even Coruscant’s planetary shield. I have a few questions though. Other than looking BA, what is the negative space for? Is it an attempt at safety if one of those arms ignites? Also, am I correct in assuming the dish in front is a mass-targeting array of some sort? Lastly, is there a benefit to having hundreds of tubes rather than just a few specialized tubes linked to a protected torpedo hold, like say the Steamrunner Class from Star Trek? Perhaps breaking through a system’s defenses requires this large volume of fire in a short amount of time, but it’s so exposed and likely harder to resupply.
Again, wonderful take on the torpedo sphere, definitely still fits into the SW design language. Now that I think of it, was the base blueprint of this the Lucrehulk? Say the Empire taking some of these old CIS ships, overhauling systems, and rebuilding around that center core ship and reactor area? Just me thinking out loud…
Edit: Might not be, the sphere’s core ship looks a bit larger compared to a CIS one, judging by the size of the ISD.
I thought the core on the Torpedo Sphere looked smaller than the core on a Lucrehulk – the Lucrehulk is over 3 km across. The scene in TCW where Anakin rams a Venator into a Lucrehulk
I’d imagine there could be a dedicated “Torpedo Sphere Resupply Apparatus” that would essentially look like a skeletonized version of the same ship, where the arms would envelop the TSphere from the outside and resupply every tube all at once. And maybe they’d only have to build like 50 since the TSphere would be such a low volume asset.

This is not what I envisioned a torpedo sphere to look like, but it has a much more totalitarian-imperial feel than any other take I have ever seen of one. It’s absolutely stunning, and the visual callback to the deathstar is obvious enough for kids to see, but not overstated!

showcases just how large the sphere is compared to the Venator.
It’s almost 700m diameter:

whereas the core on the Torpedo Sphere looks to me to be in the 500-600m size range.
