I think he is too busy building the thing to worry about providing full stats too. 🤣 Generally, you can work it out yourself by comparing it to ships of known sizes, such as an ISD or Fractal’s Bellator, if you have the time and inclination to do so. 🙂

So how long are the Compellor and Impellor ships meant to be?
These designs make me think that the ships were made after the Battle of Endor (only for battlecruisers)
Nice model btw

I’ve got a question for Fractal. On a ship this size, would it be possible to modify some of the main armament to optimize for a specific task, assuming one had access to an appropriate shipyard, funds, etc? In specific, would it be possible to swap out, say 3 or 4 of the octuple 40tt turrets along the central dorsal battery, where it begins to steeply rise, and replace them with triple 240 tt turrets? I’d assume you might need to drop a few more octuple turrets to gain the power needed to run the new battery, but it should give it more punch against a large ship.

I was playing a Star Wars-themed game of AI Dungeon, and I managed to get one of these blown up. To be fair it was a superweapon that did it. RIP HIMS Justiciar and crew, your Emperor thanks you for your sacrifice.
Do you remember what the name of the game was? I’m highly interested and would love to play it!

What exactly is the armament of this ship? I’m just curious, as i’d like to know for a sort of star wars fan-fiction or something i’m doing with a few friends. I’d really appreciate a response. Love your work, btw, Fractal. And what Disney is doing to you and taking your stuff without asking or even crediting you sucks, i hope that gets worked out!
Fractal just wondering could you make a Star Battlecruiser variant of the Compellor?
Here my take on it, replace some of the oct 40 TT turrets with heavier cannons like single 720 TT turrets (Non-ball mind you) as primary, triple 240 TT turrets as secondary and possibly few heavy ion cannons like the quad 240 TT ball turrets.
Also some hanger bays would be remove and be rearrange to be more fighter focused, have the bigger power reactor and the name will be Repellor since well Battlecruisers tends to repel enemy Cruisers.
Impellor’s basically the carrier variant of this ship, and as such trades a lot of firepower for hangar space-not really suited to slugging it out with a more direct combat-specialized sibling. Bellator, as a 7.4(?) km. battlecruiser, boasts a marked edge in tonnage, guns & shield strength, and may be quick enough to keep up with either -pellor variant.

So Fractal what is your thoughts on hyperdrives classes like the class 1 on the Venator and the class 2 on the Imperator?
Considering that the Imperial sourcebook indicate that “entire planets […] throughout their history did not expend as much power […] in one hyperspace jump,” for the hyperdrive, one could imagine that Class 1 would simply be far too energy extensive.
The Republic did field probably ten thousands of Venators though but maybe because they are smaller than an ImpStar they could still field the Class 1 without much problems?
If I remember correctly both variants of the Victory-class SD also had a Class 1 hyperdrive just like the Venator.
Both ships are smaller than 1.200 meters though so maybe size is an indicator?
Is the Venator the biggest design to feature a Class 1 hyperdrive?
Acclamators are written to possess a 0.6 Class which would make them almost as fast as the Millennium Falcon. Wat?
You think the Millenium Falcon is special? Seriously, it’s supposed to be fast in hyperspace, but it’s still just a hot-rodded tramp freighter. There will be military ships of far higher performance. You can tell it’s not particularly spectacular given how an ISD casually hauls it in (admittedly in realspace).
Hyperdrive ratings are a pretty weird and particularly poorly organized element of the ship stats available – hyperdrives seem to be small systems and very hard to scale or deduce much out of, so it’s mostly writer’s fiat.
The Falcon does provide a handy benchmark on stuff like sublight acceleration & light-freighter durability, since we spend so much screentime with it. That noted, it would be odd if something somewhere *hadn’t* outstripped the MF’s lightspeed velocity; dedicated recon platforms & rapid-reaction forces strike me as in need of the quickest possible drives.
In realspace, the Falcon does seem to be pretty competitive with high performance fighters. At Endor, it keeps pace with A-Wings and chases down TIE Interceptors with relative ease, while having an incredibly tight turning radius. Perhaps the Alliance was able to acquire higher-end mil-spec powerplants and engines as a reward for Han’s services rendered at Yavin.
Acclamator’s blazing hyperdrive speed could be explained by the fact that its hyperdrive takes up the entire “fin” that is nestled between the sublights.
I believe that the reason for why larger Imperial warships have Class 2 rather than Class 1 is because they simply do not need to be fast. I’m basing this of the fact that the Imperial ships that did have Class 1 were primarily patrol ships.

Can you add those ships: Compellor-class Star Cruiser, Impellor-class Fleet Carrier , Velox-class Star Frigate, Praetor-class Star Battlecruiser, Legator-class Star Dreadnought, Bellator-class Star Battlecruiser , Wrath Star Dreadnought, ? Star Battlecruiser, Aiwha-class Star Corvette,
to or in this image: https://fractalsponge.net/?p=895
As I understand it, Fractal was considering a 6.4-km Praetor before the Essential Guide to Warfare writers settled on 4.8. The surface details on that thing are vague enough for quite a bit of scale-fudging room.
Fractal 6 years ago on StarDestroyer.Net BBS ‘Something Big’ didn’t you said that the EU 4.8 km version is Praetor II while your 6.4 km version is Praetor III?
Incidentally, McNeill: ever cracked open Hull 721 ( http://bbs.stardestroyer.net/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=139285 )? That particular SW fic includes an impressive bit of planetary-invasion action involving said carrier (referred to as an ‘Aquila class’ in-fic) & a Mandator battlewagon.
Agreed. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read so far, and even poached a few ideas for making game stats, but I’ve been somewhat preoccupied battling Darth Reality of late. I expect I’ll be focusing on the story a bit more once things settle down. It’d just be nice if it could get cleaned up and added to a dedicated fan fiction site.
Splitting that beast into a few more digestible chapters (say, 15-20?) might also be helpful-I suspect I’m not spoiling much by noting its plethora of subplots & tertiary engagements that would make up your average EU novel’s climax.
On a related note, I really like the author’s technobabble explanation for “flak turbolasers”. Using a barrel choke to make the blaster bolt ride up on itself in a predictable manner makes for some interesting possibilities. Now if only “flak” wasn’t such a “real-world” term. Maybe a coincidental acronym, like Fractional Lag Accretion Kinesis?
721’s sundry naval personnel tend to cite profession-related references from millennia prior (‘I feel like I’ve been ordered to form up on the Flying Dutchman’), but that is one choice lump of terminology for main-gun PD tinkering.
I had to spend some time in a Thesaurus looking for words that start with A and K, but I like how it turned out. In retrospect, Kinetics would’ve been a better choice, as Kinesis is apparently a biology term, not a physics one.
If I were going to go that route, I’d probably go with Atrisian, since they appear to have contributed quite a bit to modern military thought in the SWU (the Assault Corps in the Imperial Sourcebook is officially called an Atrisian Corps). That’s the route I took for making “howitzer” a term used in Star Wars.
But now that I have a workable term that encompasses the effect described in the source material, and also happens to acronymize as FLAK, I don’t really need to…
When you finish the first arc of Hull 721 and what’s already published of the abandoned 2nd arc, there’s one final treat. ECR also put together a crossover where Lennart proceeds to conduct a reconnaissance in force of the Warhammer 40k universe with corresponding absurd consequences.
I actually recommend reading these as forum posts. ECR and our gracious host, among other SD.net folks put up some witty and informative commentary alongside Q&A in between story updates.
Will do. I’m about 2/3’s of the way through the FF.n version. The idea of a SW/WH40k crossover has long intrigued me. I have tentative game concept of using the WH40k races to populate the Unknown Regions, so I’m looking forward to seeing this one.

i wish fractal could put descriptions on length and stuff

Wonder what the acceleration of the Compellor, it is something like 3000g or higher?
the top looks like a Bellator
How well would this thing fare against a Bellator or Impellor?
Impellor’s basically the carrier variant of this ship, and as such trades a lot of firepower for hangar space-not really suited to slugging it out with a more direct combat-specialized sibling. It really doesn’t – it fits into the tip of that fin, and is much less voluminous than any of the engine nozzles, for instance.
Oh? I stand corrected.
I believe that the reason for why larger Imperial warships have Class 2 rather than Class 1 is because they simply do not need to be fast. I’m basing this of the fact that the Imperial ships that did have Class 1 were primarily patrol ships.

Seems like most of the bigger ships in that list would fit better in their own lineup. Assuming, of course, Fractal even has the time/inclination.
I made this. The smallest one is the Imperator with 1.6km
http://i68.tinypic.com/2wp0xew.png
I thought that Praetor 2s were about 4.8 km in length. This one looks like it could put a massive dent in anything smaller than the Assertor
As I understand it, Fractal was considering a 6.4-km Praetor before the Essential Guide to Warfare writers settled on 4.8. The surface details on that thing are vague enough for quite a bit of scale-fudging room.
4.8 would be just about the right length for the Praetor Carrier variant once the bow cut-out is removed…
Right now the full length non-carrier is 4.8. But the details were built around it being 6.4. Go figure.
Fractal 6 years ago on StarDestroyer.Net BBS ‘Something Big’ didn’t you said that the EU 4.8 km version is Praetor II while your 6.4 km version is Praetor III?
It’s just some post-hoc rationalization. Make of that what you will 🙂
Incidentally, McNeill: ever cracked open Hull 721 ( http://bbs.stardestroyer.net/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=139285 )? That particular SW fic includes an impressive bit of planetary-invasion action involving said carrier (referred to as an ‘Aquila class’ in-fic) & a Mandator battlewagon.
I’m reading it off and on; the story is interesting, but the formatting makes it a little challenging. I haven’t gotten to that part yet…
The prose is a little convoluted sometimes, but it’s the best high-end SW combat depiction out there, bar none.
Agreed. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read so far, and even poached a few ideas for making game stats, but I’ve been somewhat preoccupied battling Darth Reality of late. Latin and Greek are already in universe as Kuati and Tionese, so why not just headcanon German in as Anaxian or something?

Sister ship to the awesome fleet carrier? how big?
4.3 km in length.
sexy, sexy, sexy, did i mention sexy?
Have you ever thought of making a massive windows theme with all of your pictures?
What is the purpose of the undercut on both sides of the bow? Is it aesthetic or is it functional?
Good question. Functional reasons besides maaaybe ‘improved tractor-beam arc’ escape me.
You know I wonder how powerful would a Gunship variant of this ship be?
