That first WIP you should do the Chimaera symbol onto the bottom and it would be **chef kiss** and for those who eye just twitched, yes I know this post is specifically the Devastator, Vaders once flagship. But we also know the Chimaera was an ISD I with upgrades per Thrawn

I agree.
Speaking of the Chimaera, did anyone else notice that in Ahsoka the ship has the wrong turrets. It has the dual turrets seen in rouge one. In Rebels the Chimaera has octuple turrets.

In Rebels all ISDs look like mostly ISD-II in details (octet turbolaser turrets, detailing on the bridge tower, shape of the sensor domes, no steering vanes on the main thrusters), except for the tractor beam targeting array which is ISD-I style. Even though the Visual Guide for Rebels labels the Rebels ISD as an ISD-I.

A possible retcon solution might be “the first wave of ISD-IIs of the production line all had the old targeting array – the new one wasn’t introduced till later waves” (with some early model ships eventually being refitted with the new module).

Will all Rebels ISDs being retconned into being ISD-IIs rather than ISD-Is.

An easier option though, might be “Everything in Rebels has at least a little artistic licence” – Rebels TIEs aren’t really as squat as they appear in Rebels, Rebels ISDs aren’t really equipped with octets – a live-action Rebels ISD would have have double-barrelled turrets” and so on.

Yeah I tried to justify some of the details of Rebels with things like, maybe the TIEs are a pre-production variant like EC Henry points out in a video of his showing a more squarish TIE panel in the background of Return of the Jedi. Now he makes this the TIE Vigilant but maybe there was some pre-production versions??? But this all gets thrown away when you see other details just thrown around like the ISD I of Rebels. So again I think there’s a lot of creative license being given because after all one would probably say that its a kid show and thus not really a stickler for details of ships just as long as storyline is given its due attention.

Going by Wookieepedia’s pics of the Chimera from the Ahsoka series (identical to the Rogue One star destroyer in details, right down to the twin turrets and the structure of the shield domes, except for the tractor beam targeting array which is ISD-II style),

it would appear that the “artistic licence – Rebels ships don’t really look exactly like that in-universe” explanation appears to be the intended one.

The easiest explaination would be that ISD-I could have seen a retrofit to bring them closer to ISD-II standard.

After all this time I think I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t like the ‘buck tooth’ turbo lasers at the front ventral position… Mucks up the lines…

And programmatically, swapping those for a pair of ions, one in either side of the trench flanking the tractor beams and a heavy turbo laser turrent (probably with limited firing arc) buried in between them makes more sense.

I just noticed the tractor beam emplacements that replaced the point-defence cannons on the nose. Very cool.

I’m hoping the completed version will include a few in the Clone Wars colours, alongside Clone Wars era ships such as the Victory and the Venator – like with the Tector.
