I don’t mean anything bad, the design is great, but in my opinion the guns are a little bigger than they should be… At least compared to the hull and previous works, as well as in general the concept art of the raider in the original Star Wars.

is there a version that carries fighters like the corvus?

Fantastic work, as always.

My notes that don’t matter:
1) I’d argue this as a Raider–III, given the lack of a hangar and no cruiser-scale axial ions or turbolasers [variant designed for heavy and fast straffing runs or something];
2) The rounded off reactor and adjacent ‘nacelles’ seem out-of-line with the series/aesthetic.
3) Miss the ‘solar collector’ aesthetic of the wing panels; maybe could have been replaced by greebling to match the prow of the Vigil or had the sensor panels array there, top and bottom [more exposed, sure, but not occluded by the panels themselves or adjacent QTLs].
4) Super sad there weren’t any Intersector pairing shots—feel like these two would go very well together…

They are not solar collectors, and never will be. They are radiators.
The old versions of the raider are incomplete and inconsistent, and while you can add it as a “Raider 3” in your headcanon, this is very much in isolation from the in-lore Raider.

Though if you want some shots with ships of your choosing, Fractal’s paypal is up on the side banner for commissions. His rate is 80 USD an hour and as long as it’s not too complex, it should be around $160 total.

They’re solar collectors in the Legendsverse and the Disneyverse. However, Fractalsponge reserves the right to contradict both of those where he feels his perspective makes more sense.

I would guess that “the Fractalverse” owes most to Curtis Saxton’s writings, which often contradicted Legendsverse works – even ones he was involved with, like Complete Cross-Sections.

In “the Saxtonverse” they are radiators.

They are radiators because that is the most sensical explanation for those. A starship designed for travel in deep space where the light of any given star is but a speck in the vast void will not use solar power, its unfeasible. Official stats/lore are good guidelines but not the is-all end-all of a ship, especially not when they’re nonsense like “solar panels” powering a FTL-capable multi-thousand ton starship.

For your reference, in this context the use of single quotation marks [i.e. ‘solar collectors’ or, as I will now refer to them, ‘Space Crashers Reflecting, Energy, Wampas, Bolides, and Alderaanians for Liability Limitations’ or ‘SCREWBALLs’ for short] is used to highlight a word (or words) that’s not necessarily being used as traditionally defined or serving as a placeholder. So, what I did was identify that it doesn’t matter [it’s completely irrelevant, actually] what the ‘SCREWBALLs’ do, just that my interest is that they look like they’re tied back into the overall theme, shared assets, and design approach for most everything else. Especially since the prof has a lot of his own ideation and assets to reference.

Does this include a hangar? I know some books and Battlefront 2 included one.

Also, I think everyone would go crazy if he had 3D cross sections that allow us to see inside of these things!

Are any of these models for sale? I would love to include some in my sins2 mod.

They are not for sale ever since Fractal kept getting his stuff used without permission.
These models are far from game-ready anyways, they’d wreck performance if you had more than one on screen, let alone a bigger ship.

Superb modelling, as always! Given the amount of point-defence, I guess the Raider is like a lighter Lancer, with half the firepower but much speedier and manoeuvrable. I’m happy to see the triangle sensors be a regular appearance on these smaller ships, it really helps to make them feel like complementary vessels of the same navy

This is not point defence. This are quad light turbolasers, which can be effectively used against fighters and bombers. But it’s main purpose is to shoot at freighters, corvettes and the like.

Yup – turrets with that class of turbolaser in (usually paired with a regular laser cannon, albeit a very large one) are used as point defence on larger ships, but on this ship the gun is large enough relative to the ship’s own size, to be “main armament”.

This ship is more optimised for killing other ships of comparable size than the Lancer (Fractalsponge version) is – 16 turbolasers as opposed to the Lancer’s 10 turbolasers, each one in a turret that has a turbolaser paired with 1 heavy laser cannon.

Do you mean for this variant? In Wookiepedia it classifies the raider as a “transport” in cannon, but for legends one of its rolls are “anti-starfighter.”

This ship’s rather different from the official version – longer, no ion cannons, bigger turrets (which are quads rather than twins). Fins look less like giant TIE fins than those of the original, and there’s no belly fin.

If often wondered if high ROF, quad LTLs would be better at picking off bombers on an attack run than heavy laser cannons. They have grater range and are more likely to kill a bomber with a single hit at long range.
