Man and just when I had fallen in love with your TIE Demolisher. I have to say that this and the TIE Whirlwind are things of beauty.

If I may ask, how would the Mangler and Whirlwind complement each other on the Galactic battlefield and what would they best be compared to when it comes to Rebel Starfighters?

There is really no legitimate comparison here for the TIE Mangler—no turbolaser equipped star fighters in the Rebel Alphabet. Could maybe argue the composite beam variant of the B-wing is somewhat comparable. For the TIE Demolisher you could maybe say the K-wing or Starfortress.

While there is nothing in the Rebel arsenal that best fits the Mangler’s profile. There is an old republic design that does. The SGS-45 Quarrel from the SWOTOR era, granted this is a given since the TIE Mangler itself is intended as an update for the GSS-3 Mangler as part of the TIE line. Hence the name.

I Guess maybe the Lancer class pursuit craft could be refitted into something to serve the same role?

Love it, though I don’t see a hatch or other means of ingress/egress.

I know others have said this before (in fact I’ve probably said it myself), but seeing awesome designs like this really drives home how creatively bankrupt the Disney trilogy was. There were a couple decent “next-gen” upgrades like the T-70 X-Wing, but mostly things were just BIGGER: bigger Death Star, bigger Star Destroyers, bigger Star Dreadnoughts. The Prequels had their issues, but at least they had some different and interesting ships…

Queue passionate minor rebel leader begging to the upper leaders of the alliance that they need to raid the Sienar factory on bumfuktooine to destroy the assembly lines of these ships before they’re mass produced.
(The Bumfuktooine factory is a secondary assembly line and the main line is still based on Sienar’s main core world-based factory.)

Star Wars and its allergy to making cool stuff stick around, particularly for the “bad guys”
