A monitor traditionally is a slow moving coastal defense and bombardment vessel, with a shallow draft, but big guns. So to Fractal-fan, this would seem to be a system defense system on the comparative cheap, or something that could be carried to a system to bombard a planet, without dispatching a dreadnought of battle cruiser. Those guns are heavy tetra-tonnage yield, I bet.
I don’t know, I was just giving the historical definition of the term. I was thinking more on the lines of WWI and WWII British coastal monitors, which mounted a twin turret housing a pair of 13.5” or 15” guns. If you want to see what I’m talking about, Google HMS Roberts, or WWI monitor classes. Those are big guns
I’ve been doing some side-by-side comparisons between these guns and the ones on the Golan (and on the Inexpugnable), and they exactly match in detailing – I believe they are the same class of gun.
Posts on Stardestroyer.net on the Inexpugnable provided a ballpark figure of 1 to 1.5 petatons yield for each gun. Not sure if Imperial-era versions of the same gun are intended to be significantly more powerful, or about the same level of power.
I could see them as having a slower rate of fire than the standard 1 shot per second for a heavy turbolaser.
Golan Station WIP#2 on this site, is the best place to get good close-ups of the station’s biggest guns. They are two guns to a turret whereas the Star Monitor is three guns to a turret, but the details of the gun barrels match up precisely.
At first, I thought it was a turret and I quickly imagined a battleship with dozens of that on it. And then I saw the ladder and my brain went crazy.
thé scale
What ladder?
Is this from a comic or book that im not aware of. My brain isnt coming up with anything. And if not where did your inspiration come from?
your imagination is truly boundless
Now that’s a turret!
So is this a ground-based battery or a mobile orbital bombardment ship?
Is that a planetary based anti-ship weapon?
It can be – as you’ll see it’ll also be capable of ship mounting
So it’s multi-mission?

Fractal said we’ll see it on a ship. I wonder if it will be a new design or we will get a redesign of an old ship.
So it’s like the USS Monitor & other ironclads from the civil war.

In turn, it is very reminiscent of the Russian monitor Novgorod! I wonder if Fractal was inspired in part.

I didnt see it at first but yeah the Golan has two similar style barbettes, so maybe this are interchangeable??
